An American based client wanted to build a second home in Ireland's Co. Donegal. The design is heavily influenced by local, vernacular architecture and the steep, sloping site. To make best use of the site, all general living accommodation is provided in large open plan spaces at the entrance level with bedrooms and children's areas on the lower level. Windows and doors have generally been kept to a minimum as they are in traditional rural houses except on the south facing elevation where large timber screens and large doors and windows have been placed to make best use of natural light and the views down to the sea.
