The client was looking to demolition as the solution to problems created by a rundown collection of deck accessed social housing block on the edge of a northern town. We assessed the properties, and proposed retaining the existing structures, and subjecting them to a comprehensive reordering and refurbishment.
The proposed solution piloted a number of innovative environmental solutions to energy production, material specification and maintenance. Exhaustive client and end user consultation and design participation also played a major part in the project. The completed scheme proved successful with the residents as it gave a sense of ownership that restored a pride in the locality, offered low utility costs to the residents and proved very cost efficient compared to other solutions the client considered.
