The refurbishment and restoration of a complex of buildings units to accommodate six apartments and two shop units. These Georgian buildings had some Victorian modifications as well as elements that dated back to medieval times and were in a prominent location in an Historic rural county town. The buildings were purchased by the Downpatrick Property Trust and were reinstated and converted into dwellings and shop units through a £600,000 Heritage Lottery Fund & Townscape Heritage Initiative Grant.the Trust’s proposals for the reinstatement of derelict buildings in the town. The Trust had come about following the regeneration initiative in Downpatrick and Trust members had always been involved in positive consultation with Council with regard to individual property schemes. Lime plaster was employed extensively and although the roof was reslated, the original roof rafters were reused in line with the funders requirements to retain existing construction and fabric where possible.
