The client group had asked for a concept sketch scheme for a new community facility in the New Moston area of Manchester, which would be used to stimulate discussion in the locality between a number of community groups who would share a truly community owned and operated project. The proposed building would house a main hall which would be flexible in use, offering a performance space, facilities for local groups to worship, and a badminton court. In addition there are a number of smaller meeting spaces, which were designed to be joined together when required for larger functions, and an adjacent kitchen. The building will house facilities for a health visitor, a crèche with a roof terrace, changing rooms for outdoors sports facilities and an arts space.

The main community group wishes to develop an environmentally responsible building, and have discussed the need for the building to be very efficient, in order that energy usage is minimised.
