Feasibility study for a Grade II listed building in Bradford City Centre. The existing building complex has developed over time. The Education Centre has purchased and expanded into adjacent properties and a number of temporary buildings within external courtyards on the site. Since the building sits on a steeply sloping site, one of the aims of the project was to improve accessibility across the different levels within the complex.
The initial steps of the study involved developing the brief with the client and analysing existing and current use of both permanent and temporary structures. Following discussions with the local conservation officers we then completed spatial diagrams and models for the client to illustrate ways in which the building could be reordered to fullfill the criteria required by the brief. The proposals involve careful refurbishment of the existing building including extension into unused of roof spaces as well as the insertion of new build elements sympathetic to the original building.
