Project: Kenyon Street Environment Improvements
Location: Radcliffe
Value: £160k
A chemical works had originally occupied this derelict site beside the River Irwell in the run down area of Radcliffe near Bury. The remaining buildings were demolished and the site investigated for contamination. After all polluted material had been removed the site was developed as part of a wider strategy to develop the frontage of the River Irwell for recreational use and now forms an attractive connective route from residential areas to the town centre for local people.
The adjacent businesses whose employees now make lunchtime use of the site gave their support and the site was graded and filled and the footpath which gave pedestrian connections to nearby streets and the main shopping area as well as a route along the river edge were put in with seating, fencing, shrub and tree planting.
