Project: Suburban Cow, Cow Parade

Suburban Cow was created for the Manchester CowParade, a charitable event which features hundreds of decorated cows distributed around the city's public spaces.

Since all the cows in their undecorated form are identical, only acquiring a unique identity following their treatment by their respective artists, we drew a comparison between this and the typical suburban dwelling. As a standard form, suburban houses are given their unique identity by their occupants through their own personalisation.

Suburban Cow is decorated using stereotypical suburban motifs, such as patterned wallpaper, flying ducks and a cuckoo clock. It was painted in a suburban living room in a Manchester suburb, using only materials bought from a suburban DIY store on a bank holiday weekend.

Suburban Cow was sold at auction following the event and raised nearly £2000 for the Manchester Kids charity.
