The client required the doubling of the floor area to this existing school to meet the new intake requirements. The site was very restricted, and any extension would have to consider the potential loss of play space.

The proposed solution was to create an additional storey over the existing school footprint. Contractor designed elements were employed to meet the short lead-in period. High priority was given to providing a comfortable, light, open and uplifting learning environment by the use of environmentally safe decorations, passive ventilation, nighttime cooling and natural daylighting. Energy efficiency was maximised by utilising a highly insulated timber frame, solar control glazing low energy fittings and condensing boiler. The completed building met the client’s space and environmental objectives despite a tight budget.
