The lock house, a listed but semi derelict former lock keepers cottage on the Rochdale Canal required an extensive programme of work to bring the property back into use.

The client brief was to re-order the property to provide modern facilities whilst retaining much of the properties simple form. This was to include high insulation standards, the use of environmentally responsible materials wherever possible.

A number of 'lean-to' structures that had been added over the years were cleared to allow extensive structural work to correct defects. Once underpinning and bracing had been completed, 2 extensions were formed, providing new accommodation by replacing the original 'lean-to'.
